Possible Section Activities Technical meeting featuring topic of interest to wide audience, perhaps some non-engineers as well. For example a technical meeting on "How Deregulation of the Power Industry Will Affect our City." Another topic that would be of interest to many of our members and 'connected citizens' might be "Faster Web Connections are in Your Future." Still another topic might be, "Fuel Cells: the Engine for Tomorrow's Clean Cars." You can probably find local experts to speak on similar topics. Alternatively, IEEE Technical Societies can provide speakers on many topics of interest to your Section. Social meeting following election during end-of-year holiday season. It is important to bring in our spouses and friends to our professional community. Other possibilities include a summer IEEE picnic. Awards banquet where local volunteers are recognized for their contributions. This banquet would recognize contributions from local industry, government, and education (K-12 as well as university). Sections may wish to hold special awards banquets where new IEEE Fellows are elected. Engineering Week Banquet to commemorate National Engineers Week. This type of meeting is normally held as a joint meeting with other professional engineering organizations. Educational meeting and open house at local EE Department. The focus of this meeting would be to encourage practicing engineers to pursue graduate studies or to take continuing education courses. The program would include a panel discussion on programs and resources available. A tour of facilities would follow the presentation. Local industry human relations personnel and technical management staff would be invited as partners in this important process. Presentation on societal or government issue with state legislator or member of congress presenting. Possible topics might include, "State X's Plan for Mass Transportation in the 21st Century," "is NAFTA Good for U.S. Engineers," or "The Role of the Government in the Internet." |
