IEEE-KC ExCom Meeting Minutes February 11, 2008
Attending: John Fessler, Dick Hodgman, Gabe Fleck, James Frater, Plamen Doynov, Debby Dilks, Chris Zugelder, Dave Kasper
Action Items:
Quorum was met at 12:02
John will meet with Dick Hodgman on the honorarium for Ruth Dyer.
Imran Pishori sent in a Treasurer’s Report, but no one was on-line to discuss it. So this was tabled. Dick Hodgman said that Imran and Jorge Marquez along with Dick and John Fessler need to sign the L-50 report.
Regarding the R5 Conference, we need to pay $2000 to the conference fund for seed money. Dick Hodgman said that we need a motion for the appropriation. John Fessler moved and Plamen Doynov seconded this motion. Dick said that he thought money was sent last summer. Debby said no. We have only had the concentration banking account set up for about five months. Dick said he would be ok with this motion if we get our money back first. The motion passed unanimously.
John said that he would like to review the slides from last January’s IEEE ExCom meeting. He felt there were a lot of good ideas in that meeting, but he will postpone this idea until the next meeting is called and will post it on the KC Section Communities.
Debby reported that she sent in the 2008 Officer Report and the L-31s.
It was decided that the ExCom meetings will be the Monday before the section meetings on Thursday at 12 noon and we will meet face-to-face before the section meeting at a later time.
Dick Hodgman suggested that John e-mail the days and times of each of the ExCom meetings to Mark Lamendola.
Debby Dilks gave an update on the 2008 Conference plans. The conference committee will be receiving $2500 seed money from the Region 5 folks. We have an electronic registration in place finally. The tutorials are all set and we currently have about 26 conference papers. We hope to get about 50 papers. UMKC IEEE Student Branch has their S-PAC set up. Cale Yates has the Spouse Tours all set up and is finalizing the contracts. The Robotics Competition Committee is ready and will be putting the finishing touches on their track in the next few weeks. We still need to get prizes for students that participate in the conference. John said that he will check with Electronics Supply to see if they will donate something. Dave Kasper said that he had the NEC tutorial speaker set up and was working on the student paper contest.
Bill Ritter gave John an update on the 2008 Sections Congress, but he didn’t have that information.
Gabe Fleck asked if we had any recruitment materials for students to join IEEE. He wanted it as a part of an Engineer’s Week event at the local university. Debby said that she had some material sent to her student branch and would share some of that material with Gabe Fleck. She asked about the Student Branch counselor who should have received the material. Gabe said that the student branch didn’t currently have an advisor and he was helping them out. Someone asked when Engineer’s Week was and Debby replied that it will be the week of February 19 and that the MSPE Engineer’s Week luncheon will be February 21.
Chris Zugelder said that Bob Ronan sent him an e-mail that he is looking to nominate a fellow member for a teaching award. What can we do? It was suggested that we could ask that person to be a speaker at a monthly meeting and we could give him an honorarium as a part of that. John will check into it.
Gave Fleck said that every year the KC Section budgets money to the Southwest Subsection and he wanted to know if he could find out how much and what they need to do to get it. Dick told him that they need to send a budget request to the Treasurer with a line item format. You can ask for an amount and tell them what you need it for, etc. There was a budget put together last year so they could use it as a guideline. Just send it in the next couple of days and tell him what you want.
We do not have a KC Section budget submitted yet for 2008. John said he will ask Jorge for a 2008 budget.
John Fessler moved and Dick Hodgman seconded the meeting concludes.
Respectfully submitted by,
Debby Dilks |
