ExCom Meeting Minutes

January 12, 2008

Attendees: John Fessler, Chris Zugelder, Plamen Doynov, Debby Dilks, Dave Kasper, and Cale Yates

Action Items:

  1. John Fessler will contact Jorge Marquez to ask him to follow up with Imran Pishori on Action Item 1 & 2 from the December meeting. (1. Imran Pishori will post the Treasurer’s Report on the Communities and the KC Section website by Wednesday. 2. Imran Pishori will contact Jorge Marquez to arrange a meeting for the smooth transition of the Treasurer’s position.)
  2. John sent a message to Shiva and will send another to get the Communications Society meeting notice and officer’s list.
  3. Plamen enlightened the group on the correspondence from Ruth Dyer. She will give a speech on Women in Engineering and could have her talk in July.  She has a prior commitment in June.
  4. Dick Hodgman said that John Fessler needs to make the arrangements for the honorarium for Ruth Dyer now that he is the Section Chair.
  5. Mark Lamendola will attempt to contact someone from the Southwestern Subsection to get an update from them. This was done and information has been sent.
  6. Debby will meet with Mark to ask him what happened with the E-Notice system this month.  One notice should go out one month before the meeting with another one going out eleven days before.
  7. John needs to give Mark the dates for the 2008 ExCom meetings.

Quorum was met and John Fessler called the meeting to order at 10:21 a.m. on the University of Missouri Kansas City campus.

All members present introduced themselves and new officers were announced.

Meeting  minutes were approved with a motion from Dick Hodgman and a seconded from Dave Kasper.

Old Business:

John said that he would like to review the good ideas from last year’s first ExCom meeting and finish some of the items that weren’t finished.  2008 will be a busy year and he wants to discuss what others are interested in doing for other activities. One activity that was successful from last year was the communications.  Bill Ritter started the Communities and Mark Lamendola finished the year with it. The E-newsletter is a good tool too.

It was also discussed how to reinvigorate the monthly meetings and programs.  We need some very interesting speakers to draw the attendees.  Chris Zugelder said that he has already been working on the next GOLD meeting by contacting Doppler Don.  Doppler Don is the weatherman on Fox4 News and has already committed to speaking at the August meeting.  We should consider allocating $2500 a year to entice good speakers and that might generate a bigger interest from the community. Another idea was to put a picture up with the meeting notice on the webpage on either the speakers or their subjects?

Plamen said he could get the CTO of Embarq for a speaker for maybe the Consultant’s Network meeting in April. He also suggested that we might try to have a BBQ in addition to the meetings to see if that will increase attendance.

We discussed having a program chair that would do the reservations each month and have a budget, etc.

We need to outline of the milestones for the budget as well.

New Business

The ExCom meetings will be the Monday before the monthly meeting with one or two exceptions where we meet face-to-face.  Chris Zugelder asked if the Agendas could go out one or two days before the meeting.  John needs to give Mark a schedule of the days for meetings.

Cale Yates wants the Consultants’ Network group to plan a new time to meet too.

Ad-Hoc Committee Report:

Debby reported that the R5 IEEE conference committee has been meeting with the Region 5 officers to fine tune the planning.

Dave Kasper moved and Chris Zugelder seconded to adjourn the meeting.

Respectfully submitted by,

Debby Dilks
