EXCOM Meeting Minutes Kansas City Section 12 Noon 1:00 PM Teleconference 07 Feb 2006 The following EXCOM Voting Members attended by teleconference: - Dr. Ken Vollmar Section Chair - Duane Highley Section 2nd V-Chair, SW MO Subsection Chair - Imran Pishori Section Treasurer - Kirk Duncan Section Secretary, PES Chair - Bill Ritter Section Past-Chair - Fred Granville Consultants Network Affinity Group Chair - Chris Zugelder GOLD Affinity Group Chair The following Section Members attended by teleconference: - Mark Lamendola Section Webmaster - Cale Yates State Gov. Activities Chair 1. The Minutes from the Jan. 10, 2006 EXCOM teleconference meeting approved by email vote. 2. Old Business: A. Status on May 06 Banquet speaker -- Gary Burrell from Garman is not available. Discussion on desired speaker: IEEE distinguished or local engineering business person. We need a volunteer for speaker selection/invitation. Ken recommends someone fun & interesting for this member and spouse event. Its not necessary to be strictly technical. Fred suggested and will follow up on a local wildlife photography expert. Other suggestions include: Richard Woods, a game developer, and John McClelland from radio. Action date: Mar. 1. B. Computer Society 1. Feb. meeting dinner topic and speaker on web page. Thanks to Kirk Duncan for taking on the meeting-time organization details! 2. Discussion held on Kens letter to Computer Society members, describing situation and opportunities for volunteering. The letter will be sent by Ken the week of Feb. 6. 3. New Business: A. Kansas City Section and 2008 R5 Technical Conference. R5s requests for near-term KC action were originally a mistaken identity they thought they were addressing the chair of the Ozark Section, hosting the 2007 conf. 1. R5 Chair Bob Scolli does not recall a formal proposal for KC to host this conference. He requests Bill Ritter and Dale Rummer submit a proposal to host, or remind him that it has been proposed. Action: Bill Ritter and/or Dale Rummer Action date: R5 Executive Committee meeting Feb 25, North Little Rock at which Bill Ritter will attend. 2. Assuming resolution of part 1, R5 Chair Bob Scolli has invited KC rep. to make pitch at 2006 R5 Conference in San Antonio, TX April 7-9. This invitation may have been mistaken since KC section is 2008 not 2007 KenV will be able to pitch if we in fact have anything to say. Action: Ken Vollmar can present (anyone else is welcome!) Action date: Need data from part 3 below by Apr. 1 3. Need to form a conference committee. Activities: prepare a budget, an MOU with the section and university (?), dates and site selection. Committee members attend a one-day meeting at the Ozark Section (Fayetteville, AR) with R5 conference Chair Donald Dunn. Topic of meeting: lessons learned, conference seminar and tour. Action: need a committee! Early decisions only at this point. Action date: Selection of site and date by Apr. 1 so pitch can be made at 2006 R5 conf. 4. Bill Ritter will investigate the average number of attendees from past meetings for an idea of the size of conference hotel required to host a meeting. B. Request by KU student chapter for speaker. KU student IEEE advisor is Dr. James Roland. Action: Chris Zugelder and GOLD Action date: their Mar. mtg. C. KC section use of IEEE community v. web page. At this time this is not meant to replace the current KC Section web site. Bill said the calendar function works very well and will compile sub-section calendars into one master. Whatever function we use in the IEEE community should be removed from the current web page; we should store data in one spot and link to the other. Ken mentioned he has pictures posted on the site and requests others follow suit. Action: Bill Ritter Action date: open D. Section meeting management sticking to schedule, etc. Action: offline by Ken Vollmar, Dick Hodgman, Kirk Duncan Action date: for Feb. section mtg. E. Free teleconference service from Sprint for EXCOM meetings is no longer available in present form. Does IEEE qualify for community charitable grant to continue using Sprint free service? Dick will investigate. Ken will also look into other possibilities. Action: Bill Ritter Action date: open The next Section EXCOM Teleconference Meeting will be on 7 Mar 2006.
