1. The Minutes from the Oct 3, 2005 EXCOM teleconference meeting were approved by vote.

2. Old Business:

A. Bill Ritter signed the 2006 Monthly Dinner Meeting Contract with the Wyndham Garden Hotel. The basics of the contract are $17 per meal with 23 minimum meals per dinner. The list of meals is attached and you will note that vegetarian as well as gluten free choices are now available.

B. Bill Ritter –B-2 Bomber Tour. We had 30 IEEE members for the tour on 18 Oct 05. It was a fantastic tour. Photos of the tour can be viewed at http://kcieee.tunavan.com/ . Discussion was held to determine interest for a tour in 2006 also.

3. New Business:

A. Discuss Monthly Meeting time. Currently it is Social 6:00 – 6:30 PM, Dinner 6:30 – 7:30 PM, and Presentation 7:30 – 8:30 PM with 15 minutes of Q&A. A vote was taken at the 20 Oct Dinner Meeting and it was overwhelmingly defeated. EXCOM decided not to change the meeting time.

B. Discuss KC Section Controller as presented in KC Section Controller Position Paper – Draft 20050930 by Mark Lamendola. The paper was forwarded to the officers by email for review prior to this meeting. Mark was going to see if he could get someone to run with this idea and form a team to review it, but nobody has stepped forward to do this. Discussion shifted to improving the mentoring of the new officers. We will not pursue a controller but will improve mentoring.

C. Suggestion for May 06 Speaker. Ted Atchinson sent e-mail indicating that Don Wolf may be able to get Gary Burrell, who is one of Garman’s founders as a speaker. Don and Fred will proceed with trying to get this speaker.

D. Discuss meeting agenda and meeting minutes process. Find out why there are so many problems getting them approved.

E. Discuss changing the EXCOM Teleconference from the 1st Monday of the month to another time. The Southwest Missouri Subsection 2006 Chair is the Section 2nd V-Chair and cannot support Monday 12 noon to 1 PM EXCOM Meetings, because the time conflicts with Staff Meetings at work. It is proposed that EXCOM meet the 2nd Monday or 1st Tuesday of the month. RESPOND WITH YOUR PREFERENCE.

F. Discuss the problem of submitting L31 Meeting Reports throughout the section entities. See attached reference.

G. KC Section Officer Training tentatively set for 14 or 21 Jan 06. Bill Ritter will conduct the training over lunch (11 AM-3 PM). EXCOM NEW OFFICERS CHECK YOUR CALENDAR and RESPOND.

I. Discuss using IEEE Online Communities for communications within the section and entities in 2006. Region 5 is planning to initiate a Region 5 Online Community, which would be open for all Region 5 sections to use. It would be open to the public for calendar event information as well as other information throughout the section and would have private areas for the section EXCOM and private areas for chapters and affinity groups as needed. Bill will move forward in developing this tool for use by EXCOM.

J. Need a volunteer to replace Omar Marte as the JEC Representative. In the past the JEC Rep was authorized to charge, monthly meal expenses incurred in attend JEC functions. Main function is to post meeting announcements on the JEC website and coordination between JEC and the section.

K. Grogan Advisory Services – Larry Grogan and Bill Ritter met at Sections Congress 2005. No one expressed an interest in having this as a meeting topic.

L. Dinner meeting Calendar is available at:http://www.ieee-kc.org, from the Meetings link in the main navbar. Let us make this the master copy. If anyone needs to change something, coordinate with anyone affected and get the change to Mark Lamendola.

M. Attached is the status of the KC Section Budget for 2005. The budget has not been posted on our website on a monthly basis and it should have been. In the future the treasurer needs to provide Mark Lamendola with the most current update for posting on the website. IEEE is taking a harder look at finances and we need to do so also. We need to discuss this and a motion may be needed to assure this is done in the future. Additionally since the chapters and affinity groups funds are under the reporting responsibility of the section, their monthly postings may be needed.

N. The members attending in person were provided a guided tour of the Kansas Technology Center by Randy Winzer. I’m sure my co-attendees will concur the center is quite impressive in the broad scope of technologies and the hands-on lab experience available. Thanks to Randy for his time. KJD
