EXCOM meeting minutes, 17JAN02. Taken by Sarah Kilgore

Quorum

Voting members present: Randy Schmisny, Jim Berard, Dawn Van Dee, Sarah Kilgore, Shiv Gupta, Barry Clegg, Dale Rummer. A quorum is present.

Status

Annual Report: Dawn stated that she needed financial information from societies to complete report that is Due February 22, 2002.

Region 5 Conference: Region 5 pays for one attendee, determine who would like to attend.

Student Papers: Judges are currently grading written papers. Judges and contestants need to coordinate time for oral presentations. Would like to complete judging and award prizes prior to Engineer’s Week. The papers will be returned to the students so that they may refine their papers prior to the Region 5 paper contest entry deadline that is March 15, 2002.

Ideas for next years student paper contest include having students register for the contest and submitting an abstract.

DG Conference: About 30 people registered for conference. Jim has schedule for conference. Jim also brought magazine with ad and example of postcard advertising the DG conference. Primedia will mail out approximately 10,000 postcards. Jim has spoken with vendors to provide display equipment such as generators, load banks, etc. It was suggested that IEEE-KC Section promote DG conference via website, email list and newsletter.

JEC Directory: Determine IEEE National and Regional regulations concerning how this should be done. Would like to allow IEEE members to be included via website registration.

9 Minute Dinner Topic Brainstorm: Tabled till next meeting

Alliance with KU Continuing Education Series: KU Continuing Ed sponsors 6 or 7 mini-seminars on various electrical topics. Mine-seminars can be used for professional development hours. IEEE-KC Section would like to help KU promote series, perhaps thru website, email list or newletter.

Budget

Members went through category list and defined each category briefly, modified some items, agreed to continue discussion via email.
