EXCOM meeting minutes, 13DEC01. Taken by Mark Lamendola

Lunch

10 people shared lunch. Non-voting attendees: Gregg Glass, Shiv Gupta, Bill Ritter (Topeka), Fannye Forester, Don Wolf, Ted Atchinson

Quorum

Voting members present: Randy Schmisny, Jim Berard, Dawn Van Dee, Saad Siddiqi, Mark Lamendola, Sal Cerda, A quorum was present.

Minutes and officer reports approved

Done by e-mail

Status

DG Conference: Ads will run, have most of the speakers, main speakers in place, e-pay in place, Primedia doing bulk of admin work. Jim doing a heck of a job.

Student Papers: Judges in place, deadline approaching. Next, need to have judges agree on meeting for oral presentations. Need to work on date for oral presentations.

New logo: Randy has taken care of getting this in action.

Awards: Everything is set. Randy and Jim to help in presenting.

Budget

Dawn described her recommended process for getting 2002 budget development underway. Recommends a committee analyze actual vs. budgeted and make needed adjustments. Also, know what each category means.

Mark L. moved that we establish a finance committee and let the Treasurer select the members. Dawn seconded. Motion passed.

Budget committee: Dawn, Randy S., Shiv. Group kept small to get job done quickly. Please note, these are the Treasurers for 2001(D), 1998(R), 1999(R), and 2002(S). Saad may possibly participate.

Jim to send Dawn cashflows from DG, to put in budget.

E-mail voting

Proposal to streamline e-mail voting. Mark moved to simplify, so discussion could occur. Jim moved that e-mail voting consist of 3-day waiting period, after which votes are taken. A quorum closes the vote. Any voting member can nix the e-mail vote. Sal seconded. Motion passed. Mark L. to update in _ex directory.

Officer transition

We need to hand off materials related to the offices, prior to the January EXCOM. Jim will hand off to Sarah.

Officer training—need to address. (Editor’s note on this topic—get a head start by looking at www.ieee-kc.org/r5)

Jim, 2002

Some goals include:

  1. Getting reconnected to the student population
  2. National Engineers Week
  3. DG Conference
  4. IEEE dinner evening conference. Will be ad in JEC publication this month
  5. Connect to the students, each other, the engineering community
  6. Possibly an IEEE rock concert—suggested by Saad
  7. Bill Ritter suggests getting "IEEE Senior Member" on your business card.

Next meeting is next year.
