IEEE Kansas City Section EXCOM Minutes 2001-08

Minutes, August 2001

EXCOM meeting minutes, 09AUG01. Taken by Mark Lamendola

Lunch

19 people showed up for lunch.

Lunch Guests:

Denise Bury brought two crock pots and arrived well ahead of the luncheon to help with food preparations (‘tweren’t no minor deal….).

Dawn brought beverages (quite a variety), chopped onions, cheddar, and various accoutrements to make the meal complete. She also brought two future officers.

Fannye Johnson was gracious enough to bring bowls and spoons, but could not stay for the business meeting.

Saad wanted the chili hotter, but most felt it was just right.

Lunch chatter of note: Jim Berard and Tim Andrews addressed some possible co-operative ventures with PRIMEDIA Exhibitions and Seminars. Mark L. to follow up with contact information, primarily Sharon Morabito, for Jim.

The new folks echoed the age-old story of being shanghied, strongarmed, and tricked into getting involved in the EXCOM. (It’s good to see are keeping such skills current. —Mark L.)

Quorum

Voting members present were: Jim Berard, Dawn Van Dee, Mark Lamendola, Barry Clegg, Sal Cerda, Saad Siddiqi, Dale Rummer. A quorum was present.

Non-voting members present were: Sarah Kilgore, David Readio, Ezzat Atieh, Omar Marte, Alan Richardson, Walid Hanna, Sean Schendinger, Greg Glass, Bill Gillespie, Gupta Shiv.

Our fearless leader was shanghied, strongarmed, and tricked into another meeting by his upper management and could not make this meeting.

Minutes and officer reports approved

Dawn Van Dee moved approval. Dr. Rummer. seconded. Motion passed.

Student Paper Contest

David presented awards plan. We do have faculty contacts. At this meeting, we assigned Alumni contacts as follows:

Mark L. to send Dawn the Student Paper document. Dawn to set milestones.

Student Scholarships

Tabled.

Awards

Fannye Johnson was unable to stay for the meeting. We have $2300 budgeted for awards. The Awards Chair has discretion on how to spend this. Gift certificates, paper certificates, acceptable. Awards Committee to study.

Mark L. spoke with Fannye about the awards on Monday. She is forming her committee, and should have something soon. She’s decided she can no longer wait for work to slow down to hurricane levels, so expect something in e-mail and be sure to help her get going.

Section Banner

No update on Jim Berard’s progress on the new banner (item not on agenda, not covered at meeting—shown here because it was on last agenda).

Educational Activities

Dr. Rummer. Distributed Generation seminar—late in February, 2002. Omar Marte agreed to help with this effort from the PES. Jim to meet with Phil Musser and Rick Bush (Primedia, 913-341-1300) for speaker contacts.

Jim Berard expressed a feeling this seminar may be too much to handle next year, given we are doing the student paper contest, planning for the R5 event, and so on.

Joint Engineering Council

Rummer moved, Mark L. seconded, that IEEE-KC join JEC for $250.

Dinner Meeting Contract with Wyndham

Dawn moved that we approve contract, Rummer seconded. Motion passed.

IEEE Accounts

Dawn raised issues regarding signatures required by IEEE. More info to come, later.

Adjourn

Next meeting is 6th of September at Sprint (normal place). Randy to make arrangements.
