out ...(JB to check out) Dale Rummer to see if J. Robert Ashley,
(Affects of Power Lines) can speak to us. Mark slapped us to get back on
schedule.
Which meetings are daytime or evening. Lets try for early November
daytime meeting. Follow up on website & e-mail.
12:27 to 12:36: Student activities discussion
Student papers need guidance, a mentor, an advisor. Bill's comment was if
a student isn't interested enough then it wasn't the mentors role to
motivate them. Don indicated a coop background better prepares student
for real life...Discussion was that students need better topics and that
students aren't motivated to turn in papers for the rewards that are
offered...Randy S. suggest what we need is a Student Activities Advisor
that is motivated and energized to promote at the academic level...someone
at KU (Rummer), K-State(Gary Johnson Retired Faculty was suggested) ,
Rolla, UMKC, Pittsburg State...each location. David Readio (Sr. Member)
is being volunteered by Lamendola...ML will check into
12:37 to 12:42: Awards (Rick Lett)
Medallions are available. Saad to be Section Awards Chair for 2000. Region 5
awards and IEEE USA awards.
12:43 to 12:48: Workshops and tutorials
Section running OK but we're not moving out of our comfort level. Should
try to start tutorials from societies. Communications, Power, Computer.
Bill suggest each Society provide two topics for tutorials or workshops.
Two ideas to Mark for review and discussion. What have other sections
done on tutorials and conferences. This is a way to make some money to
fund other activities. Rummer has been keeping newsletters from other
sections for information. Workshops often on a Thursday or Friday. Follow
up in future meetings.
12:49 to 12:52: 2001 Officer roster
Need to develop officer roster for each society. Need to locate a new
Secretary for next year. Randy will be working on EXCOM officer list.
