Senior Embedded R & D Software Engineer
12 + years working with hardware engineering in board bring-up ability to
analyze schematics and perform hardware- level test/debug using oscilloscopes,
digital analyzers, etc. Small R & D team develops and maintains embedded
software for wireless communication equipment consisting of land mobile radios
and base station components; telecommunications systems (not wireless) concepts
and/or signal processing fundamentals is highly desirable along with background
in real-time embedded control software development using C/C++/Assembly,
Windows/UNIX. BSEE/BSCS preferred as is familiarity with software requirements
definition and analysis, high- level and detailed design, implementation

Project Manager General Mills is looking for a PE for its facility in Kansas
City. This position will be the primary technical resource for project
management and will be responsible for the following:
- Identify, lead, develop, and execute solutions for quality and
performance improvements.
- Provide key technical support on capital projects.
- Conduct capacity studies, enhance system reliability, and
identify/implement productivity improvements, including new technologies.
- Develop/maintain strategic technical improvement plans for systems.
- Use of continuous improvement tools, statistics and analytical methods,
and process measurement and control.
- Have advanced computer skills to execute capital projects.
A bachelor’s degree in Engineering is required.

Region 5 Conference in KC Update
IEEE-Kansas City Section and the University of Missouri
Kansas City School of Computing and Engineering are co-hosting the 2008 Region 5
IEEE Conference at the Intercontinental Hotel on the Plaza in Kansas City.
Please consider supporting your local IEEE Kansas City

- Participate in the Career Fair/Vendor Fair
- Help sponsor the event with company samples, gifts,
or donations, etc.
Students will potentially be coming from eighty-five
universities across twelve states to compete in five different competitions,
including the Regional Robotics Competition. Mark your calendars. |

Region 5 Conference in KC Call for Papers and
Participation
The technical sessions, short courses, and student
competitions are all arranged to provide a great interaction forum for people in
industry and academia. There are many sessions planned with the intention of
forming an over-arching bridge between various disciplines in state-of-the-art
electrical engineering, computer engineering, and computer science research.
The committee is soliciting papers describing original
unpublished research in all areas of electrical engineering, computer
engineering and computer science, including theoretical, experimental, and
commercial works. We are also encouraging participation of all other interested
parties at this conference.
Important dates
- Deadline to Submit Full Paper/Extended Summary via
EDAS: February 15th, 2008
- Paper Acceptance or Rejection: March 15th, 2008
- Final Paper Due: April 2nd, 2008
- Early Registration: March 20
- Author registration: April 2nd
NOTE: The latter is required for the presenters of the
accepted papers. Late registration for all other participants will remain open
at a higher rate until the last day of the conference.
Tutorials: We are also offering a series of short courses
on April 17th. These cover a range of cutting edge technologies of interest to
the IEEE constituents. Please use the general conference registration form at

Send IEEE "The Institute" Your News
If you have information of interest to IEEE
members everywhere, please send that to
institute @ieee.org. The Institute is looking for
participants to interview for these story topics:
- Recent graduates or GOLD members have who have started their own
companies.
- Student members who formed lasting friendships with other students they
met at an IEEE student branch.
- Members who have "dirty" or even unusual engineering jobs, which might
include doing engineering for a subway/metro system, tunnel system,
something of that kind.
They are also looking for:
- Obituaries on members.
- Recognitions that members receive such as promotions, appointments,
awards, or honors from their community or government.
- Recognition that members receive from an IEEE Society, such as an award.
- Interesting jobs or hobbies for member profile pieces.
- News about IEEE student members, student branches, student activities,
