Minutes of the IEEE Consultants Network – Kansas City Section

2/6/2001

Attending:  Ted Atchinson, Jack Cussen, Fred Granville, Dale Rummer, Don Schaefer, Don Wolf

Minutes of the last meeting were approved.

Old Business:

The group resolved to pursue a unique domain name for the IEEE Consultants Network in Kansas City.  Fred agreed to verify that the four domain names on the “short list” were still available for registration.  Fred also agreed to investigate the issues associated with hosting a web site with its own domain name.  The group agreed that there would be a benefit to establishing a unique web presence that we could market and use to establish cross-links with our own sites and related sites.

The candidate domain names are as follows:

1)     Consultants-IEEE-KC.org

2)     KC-Consultants-IEEE.org

3)     Consultants-Network-IEEE.org

4)     KC-IEEE-Consulting.org

New Business:

The group discussed the difficulty of maintaining a checking account with no service charge.  Following the discussion, the group moved to move its account to a IEEE consolidated checking account.  The motion carried.

The group developed a tentative calendar of events for 2001:

1)     April 4, 2001 - Data Backup  (Speaker responsibility - Dale Rummer)

2)     June 6, 2001 - Services Marketing  (Speaker responsibility - **)

3)     September 5, 2001 – Contracts  (Speaker responsibility - **)

4)     Off Months – Group Mentoring  (First volunteer – Ted Atchinson - tentatively May 9)

The group also voted to conduct the majority (if not all) of these events as luncheon events on the first Wednesday of the month.  The April, June and September meetings will be open to all members of the local chapter, and possibly to members of other organizations as well.  The group mentoring sessions will be solely for members of the Consultants Network and will focus primarily on services marketing.  ** Note:  Ted Atchinson has volunteered to help look for speakers for these topics – although we all should try to help out in this area.

Don expressed his interest in conducting joint meetings with other organizations so that we can attract a larger audience – out of respect for our outside speakers.  He offered to share our meeting schedule with Howard Eichenwald of the ICCA.

The group nominated and elected officers for 2001.  The officers for 2001 are as follows:

1)     Chair – Don Wolf

2)     Vice Chair/Treasurer – Ted Atchinson

3)     Secretary – Fred Granville
