Officer Job Description: Section Vice Chair

The Section Vice Chair is in training to succeed the Section Chair. The primary purpose of serving as Vice Chair is to learn the Chair's job.

The Section Vice Chair has these duties:

In October/November of the previous year

1. Assist the Section Chair with finding a program and/or speaker for the May Banquet.
2. Assists the Chair in preparing the preliminary budget.
3. Assists the Chair in arranging for officer training of the incoming officers.
4. Reviews the strategic plan, offering commentary as needed.

In the First Quarter

1. Helps coordinate the filing of the L-50 annual financial report, as directed by the Chair.
2. Chases down information, as necessary.

Throughout the year

1. Chairs the EXCOM meetings (Roberts Rules of Order describe how this is done), in the absence of the Chair.
2. Reviews the procedures and presents needed changes to the EXCOM.
3. Reviews the bylaws and presents needed changes to the EXCOM.
4. Proactively identifies governance issues (issues where officers are not doing their jobs or where officers are doing something not permissible) and brings those to the attention of the Chair.
5. Represents the Section at IEEE events if the Chair is not able to attend a given function.
