Mike had nearly 40 years of experience in the electrical power industry before retiring a few years ago. He got his start in power at KCP&L and later completed 35 years at Black & Veatch as Head – Power System Study group.

He has authored and delivered four papers on “FACTS Devices” and “Underground Cable Installations” in Pskov, Russia for EPRI and “Distribution System Loss Reduction Improvements” and “Reliability Measurements for Improved Distribution System Performance” in Kathmandu, Nepal for the US government.

Mike has had the pleasure of working and living in many countries during his experiences at B&V. Mike has a BSEE from UMR in 1971 and is a member of MSPE, NSPE, and a senior member (thanks to Gary Engmann) of IEEE. Mike is now an Adjunct instructor at UMKC where he has developed a few new courses, “Auxiliary Electric System Design”, “Power Lab (Electromechanical Conversion II)” and “Transmission System Planning and Impact Studies” and continues to work on Power Lab (the ‘petting zoo’ of electromechanical conversion).

He began teaching part time at UMKC in 1978 under the auspices of Dr. J Tudor of UMC and has been teaching occasionally at the Electric League of Missouri and Kansas for a few decades. He has recently accepted a part time teaching position at Metropolitan Community College of Kansas City’s Business Training Center.
