Water Program: Speaker Kenny Aron will present "Feeding Development in Premature Infants": Infants in-utero begin developing their feeding response (sucking) at 34 weeks gestation. Premature infants are perturbed prior to developing intrinsic feeding response, resulting in a delayed or completely absent response to presentation of nutrition. Difficulty feeding is responsible for extending premature infant care in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit by an average 2 weeks, placing physical stress on the patient, emotional stress on the family, and financial stress on the health care system. This presentation discusses an innovative technology developed at KU that assesses an infant's neural development and retrains the brain to coordinate feeding. Information will be presented on infant neurology, anatomy, motor development, and neural pattern generators. Location: Wyndham Garden Hotel, I-435 & Metcalf
Ave, Overland Park, KS.
Charge: Dinner $25/20* for members & guests, students $15.
No charge for presentation. The cash bar at mealtime now offers added variety to your beverage options:
