IEEE Kansas City Section September Dinner Meeting

Menu:

Chicken and Mushroom Penne. Sautéed mushrooms with marinara sauce and mozzarella cheese served on a bed of penne pasta and grilled chicken, topped with Italian cheeses. Served with seasonal vegetables.
Vegetarian Option: Eggplant Parmesan.
Gluten-free meal: Same as entrée; but on a bed of rice instead of penne pasta

All Items Include Salad, Rolls, Double Chocolate Cake, And Iced Tea / Water

Program: Rich Marshall, P.E., will present "It's About Time." This is a discussion of computing systems that require clock synchronization and the technology by which it is achieved. Topics discussed will include the following:

A historical overview of time standard development.
How atomic time and astronomical time are reconciled.
The various means by which time standards are made available to the public.
Examples of commonly used clock synchronization solutions on networked and stand-alone computing systems.
Several examples of proprietary event recording systems and the means by which they apply time-stamp information.

The discussion will take about 20 minutes with a few milliseconds for questions.

IEEE Computer Society Kansas City Chapter Elections will be held prior to the presentation.
