All Items Include Salad, Rolls, Double Chocolate Cake, And Iced Tea /
Water Program: Aviation weather radar. This topic will include the use of Radar design techniques specific for aviation weather Radar. The presentation will introduce the use of weather Radar in avionics – how and why it is used by pilots. The presentation will also include the discussion of important Radar concepts including pulse compression, the choice of Radar waveforms, range/Doppler ambiguity, and performance calculations to determine maximum range. Some practical discussion will describe some important tradeoffs between complexity and cost. Some of the discussion will focus on implementing signal processing functions mainly using Field Programmable Gate Arrays. Speaker: Troy Robinson of Garmin International. Troy has a BSEE and MSEE from the University of Tennessee Knoxville. He's been an electrical design engineer for 18 years, mostly in the area of FPGA design for digital signal processing applications. His experience includes digital receiver design for point-to-point microwave radio, FPGA design for high-speed switch fabrics, satellite modems, and aviation Radar. His time at Garmin over the last 2 years has been as an electrical design engineer, along with a team of 8-10 other engineers and technicians, on an aviation Radar project. Location: Wyndham Garden Hotel, I-435 & Metcalf
Ave, Overland Park, KS.
Charge: Dinner $25/20* for members & guests, students $15.
