Thursday, September 18, 2008 Menu: (Note your choice when you register.)
Program: This program has changed from the originally posted program.
Dr. Yu-Ping Wang, Assistant Professor of EE and CS at University of Missouri-Kansas City (UMKC), will present, "High resolution genomic imaging powered by computational image analysis." In the current post-genome era, several high resolution probes evolved from human genome sequencing has been developed. When combined with imaging technique, they provide complementary structural information to gene expression analysis. The combination of structural imaging with gene expression promises a comprehensive and systematic way for the study of cancer and genetic disease. However, fulfilling the promise calls for powerful analytic techniques to handle and mine the vast amount of imaging data generated by these high resolution probes. In the talk, Dr. Wang will review the latest progress in multiscale genomic imaging, discuss computational problems, and show the applications of signal/image processing approaches such as wavelets to the solution of these problems. A variety of genetic imaging processing examples including probe signal detection, compression, fusion, enhancement and classification will be presented.
Location: Wyndham Garden Hotel, I-435 & Metcalf
