April Meeting |
|
Thursday, April 12, 2007 Menu: (Note your choice when you register.)
Program: WiMax WiMax is an industry standard that combines IEEE 802.16e Physical and MAC layer specifications with an IP based control and application network to provide interoperability across equipment and carriers. WiMax provides a high throughput, low latency wireless data service that includes integrated Quality of Service, downlink speeds up to 10 Mbps, uplink speeds of up to 3 Mbps and a spectral efficiency of up to 1.5 bits/Hz. The presentation will compare a WiMax network with the typical metropolitan WiFi 802.11 network and will explore how wireless and Broadband Internet will be combined with WiMax to provide new opportunities for everyone. This will be a great opportunity for an overview on WiMAX and for some insights into Sprint’s high-speed wireless data network deployment using 2.5GHz WiMAX. Speaker: Jack Sippel will be guest speaker for this topic. Jack Sippel is the manager of 4G Radio Access Network Development for Sprint Nextel. Jack’s team is responsible for the RAN development of the SprintNextel’s 2.5GHz WiMAX deployment. Editor's Note: Through his career, Jack has ably served in several positions in the IEEE. Most old-timers know Jack. If you don't know him, take the opportunity to meet him at this event. Location: Wyndham Garden Hotel, I-435 & Metcalf
Ave, Overland Park, KS.
Charge: Dinner $25/20* for members & guests, students $15.
No charge for presentation. The cash bar at mealtime now offers added variety to your beverage options:
