January Meeting |
| Thursday, January 20, 2005 Sponsored by the Section Meal: Romano Chicken Parmesan. Pan-seared Romano chicken on a bed of Penne pasta with tomato basil sauce and seasonal vegetable. Register: january @ ieee-kc.org. Speaker: Denis P. Ferland Program: True BASIC. Standards of every kind affect products and markets. Computer language standards are no exception. This presentation applies to more than just computer languages. In True Basic you ask for the time and it returns 4:34 PM. In VB.NET, you ask for the time and tells you how to build a clock. Standards grown within captive monopolies may be fine. But imagine the pain of doing long hand division via Roman Numerals. Denis P. Ferland, a professional programmer from Indianapolis, Indiana, who frequently programs in True BASIC, will give us an overview of the language and what it can do for non-professional and professional programmers today. One of his themes will be to contrast Object Oriented Programming (as done in the Microsoft .NET environment) to True BASIC.

Ave, Overland Park, KS.
Times: No-Host Social Hour: 5:30 - 6:30 PM
