Topic: Arc Flash Evaluation. If you attended the PES presentation on metal-clad switchgear a few years back, you no doubt walked away with a new appreciation for arc blast and arc flash. This presentation expands on the arc flash aspect of things. Whether you are a design engineer or you work in the field, this presentation will be very valuable to you.
An agreement recently among OSHA, the NECA and IBEW establishes a new OSHA-defined Standard of Care for electrical safety in the United States. The agreement augments current federal standards for electrical safety in the workplace with specific requirements for addressing electrical hazards in the work place, specifically arc flash and arc blast. This presentation will discuss technical and programatic challenges and present practical solutions for employers to determine potential electrical system hazards, including arc-flash/blast, via appropriate safe work procedures, personal protective equipment, and employee training.
