IEEE Kansas City Section May Banquet Meeting

May Banquet

Thursday, May 15, 2003
Sponsored by the IEEE, KC Section

This will be at the Wyndham Garden Hotel in Overland Park. If you are coming from out of town and need a place to stay, please contact writer @ ieee.org before the end of April--we have a few folks who will open their homes to fellow IEEE members.

This event is designed for IEEE members to bring their non-engineer significant others for an evening of fine dining and a program that is always excellent (even for those without an engineering degree).

Register: dinner @ ieee-kc.org

Give your daytime ph# and how many are in your party. If you need a vegetarian dish, note that also.
Register no later than noon on the 12th.

Because we will probably have a special menu, we'll need an exact headcount. Please observe the registration deadline. We can't do late registrations for this event.
Carl will cover decision-making, setting priorities, and being effective at meetings.  His presentation will also include a brief overview of the following topics:  better speaking and writing, teamwork, leadership skills, understanding yourself and others, being more creative, and negotiating.

Please see Carl's Website: http://www.carlselinger.com/seminars.html

About the presenter

Carl Selinger is an independent consultant helping aviation and transportation organizations with business strategy and applying new technologies to increase customer satisfaction and enhance financial performance.

Selinger's career spans aviation, transportation planning and strategic business planning, mainly during his 31-year career with The Port Authority of NY & NJ.  Carl is a frequent guest speaker, and facilitates strategic planning sessions, focus groups and "Synectics" brainstorming sessions.

His seminar--"Stuff you don't learn in engineering school"--has helped over 1,000 young engineers over the past decade learn non-technical "soft skills" like decision-making, setting priorities, negotiating, teamwork, running meetings, and better writing and speaking, in order to become more effective and happier
persons in the "real world."

Carl has extensive college teaching experience:

  • Adjunct Professor of Civil Engineering at Cooper Union teaching urban transportation courses for 27 years
  • Graduate-level aviation and transportation planning courses at SUNY Maritime College
  • Transportation and marketing courses at Pace University, New Jersey
Institute of Technology, and City College of New York.

Carl holds civil and transportation engineering degrees from Cooper Union, Yale
University, and Polytechnic University.
