IEEE Kansas City Section May Banquet Meeting

May Banquet

Thursday, May 17, 2001

Sponsored by the KC Section of the IEEE

Please note: When you register by the deadline, you get a discount. If you register and don't cancel by the deadline, you are basically ordering a meal the Section must pay for. Thus, if we can't sell your spot to someone who did not register, we will bill you for that meal. The odds of reselling are poor, as nearly everyone registers by the deadline these days.

Register: dinner @ ieee-kc.org

Give your daytime ph# and how many are in your party. If you need a vegetarian dish, note that also.

Topic: 11 Habits of Highly Defective People

Where: Wyndham Garden Hotel, I-435 & Metcalf Ave, Overland Park, KS. (913) 383-2550.

Dir: Exit I-435 Metcalf Ave N. Go 1/4 km to 107th St. Turn right. Take immed. right @ BP. Go 100 meters; hotel is on your left.

Speaker: Mark Lamendola

Times: No-Host Social Hour: 5:30 PM - 6:30 PM
Dinner Hour: 6:30 PM - 7:30 PM
Presentation: 7:30 PM - 9:30 PM

Dinner: New York strip steak

Charge: Dinner $27/20* for all participants. No charge for presentation.
*The second price reflects your registration discount. Please note: Our cost for the meal is actually $27--but if you register for this event by the deadline you will pay only $20. The Section is picking up the difference.

Dress: Business suit and tie for the men; business suit or dress for the ladies.

Program: Mark Lamendola, Past Chair, always engages the audience with humor and interactivity. He's presented at past Section meetings on such topics as Writing for the Engineer (Being an Easy Writer) and Time Management (How to do 72 hours of work in 8 hours).

In this presentation, Mark will cover 11 self-defeating behaviors and how to overcome them. You'll see how you give your manager so much ammunition for crucifying you in that dreaded annual appraisal, and you'll see how to turn that around. You'll see some ways you sabotage your most important relationships, and how you can stop doing and saying the wrong things. Given from the viewpoint of someone who's had lots of practice doing these behaviors and has had some success overcoming them (we won't mention 11 others....)

Dinner reservation deadline is noon Monday, May 7 (the week prior to the banquet).

Contact the Webmaster (Mark Lamendola) at writer @ ieee.org. If you would like to be the Webmaster, I am looking for someone to replace me. Please contact me if you're interested.
