KCCN Seminar
IEEE CONSULTANT NETWORK – KANSAS CITY PRESENTS

Becoming and Successfully Practicing as a Consultant by Dr. Gary Blank

The economic climate throughout the world today is frightening, to say the least, and will probably continue to be so for some time. If you are considering making the transition from full-time corporate work to being a full-time independent consultant or are already consulting and looking for ways to increase your assignments and client base, the IEEE Consultants Network – Kansas City has scheduled a training seminar for you.

It is entitled Becoming and Successfully Practicing as a Consultant and is for the IEEE Kansas City Section membership and other interested non-IEEE parties. It will take place in the Ballroom in the Wyndham Garden Hotel at I-435 and Metcalf Avenue in Overland Park, Kansas, commencing at 9:00 a.m. and ending at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, 11 July 2009. Six (6) Professional Development Hours (PDHs) are available for those requiring credits for professional certifications.

If you are an IEEE member and register for the seminar by 5:00 p.m. on Friday, 5 Jun 2009, the seminar will cost you $200.00. After that, the seminar fee becomes $250.00. If you are not an IEEE member and register by the above deadline, the seminar will cost you $300.00. After the deadline, the seminar fee becomes $400.00. Note the seminar fee includes all hand-outs, break refreshments, and lunch. Please consider joining the IEEE (if you are not already an IEEE member), as you will not only save a substantial amount of cash to attend the seminar, but also become part of a global network consisting of over 350,000 engineers.

To register in all instances, please send your full name, IEEE member number, a contact telephone number, and your work or company affiliation to KCCNseminar@ieee-kc.org. Please do not send any money with your registration. We will collect that at the beginning of the seminar on Saturday, 11 July 2009. NO-SHOWS WILL BE BILLED.

PLEASE NOTE: Dr. Gary L. Blank, the seminar instructor, requires a minimum of eight (8) paid participants in to justify his coming to, and holding the seminar in, Kansas City. The IEEE Consultants Network – Kansas City therefore needs a firm response by the 5 June 2009 deadline from those wanting to attend. If there is insufficient interest (less than eight registrations) shown by the deadline, we must cancel the seminar.

New Senior Member
Congratulations to Dennis Johnson for achieving the status of IEEE Senior Member.

To find out the benefits and requirements for being elevated to Senior Member, go to www.ieee.org and click the Membership link.

Thought for the Day
The discipline it takes to complete an engineering degree is, in itself, an asset. Are you still putting that asset to use?

Send Us Your News

If you have information of interest to IEEE Kansas City Section members, please send that to the Publications Officer (writer @ ieee.org). Here are some examples of what we're looking for:

News pertaining to individual IEEE members of all grades, including students:

  • Awards, promotions, appointments, honors.
  • Notable achievements.
  • "Looking for work"--send a paragraph explaining what you do and how to reach you.
  • Obituaries.

News to benefit other members

  • Technical courses, programs, seminars, lectures, lunch and learns, and tours open to members of the Section, a Society Chapter, or an Affinity Group Chapter.
  • Technical resources. A technical book or Website you found particularly useful.
  • Job openings.
  • Mentoring opportunities.
  • Updates on such groups as FIRST.

There is no "deadline." Just send information as you get it, and the Publications Officer will add it to the next eNL (if the item is appropriate and if space permits--and space nearly always permits).
