Call for Volunteers for 2008 Section Officers

The Kansas City Section Nominations process for 2008 positions is underway. The nominations committee, under the direction of Section Vice-chair Fred Granville, is developing a slate of nominees for the Section Officers (Section Chair, Vice-chair, Secretary, and Treasurer). If you're interested in a position or would like to suggest someone, please contact Fred at flg @flgnetworking.com  (paste into your e-mail client and remove the spaces).

Appointed positions also need filling. We have an opening for Life Members Chair. PACE needs officers, and many Society positions are open. Mark Lamendola has served as Publishing Officer for over 10 years and would like to pass the baton.

Visit the Officers page and look at the open positions. If you're interested in a position or would like to suggest someone, please contact Fred Granville at flg@ flgnetworking.com.

If you have questions about what these positions entail, you will find information on the Section Website  www.ieee-kc.org (no surprise there):

  • Click the Officers link, and you'll see a link for Officer Duties--this information comes directly from the Region 5 Officer Training Manual hardcopies.

  • The Section and Society officers also have a resource called the BIC. In your browser address bar, just type "bic" after the domain name. Click your bic, and you will be in the Business Information Center.

  • You can also contact the current officeholder, the Section Chair (Dick Hodgman, dick @hodgman.org), or the Section Vice Chair (Fred Granville, flg@ flgnetworking.com) if you don't find your answer online.

IEEE Elections, Part 2

You may have seen this in your e-mail inbox, already:

Dear IEEE Voting Member:

Your individual ballot for the 2007 IEEE Annual Election has been mailed to you via first class.

The opportunity to vote in the IEEE Annual Election is a privilege of your membership. The annual election candidate biography booklet will only be provided to newly joined members who are eligible to vote for the first time in the annual election, those who have been elevated to Member or Graduate Student membership grades on/or before 30 June 2007, and those members who voted by paper ballot in the 2006 election. Members who transmitted their ballot electronically, or did not vote in the 2006 election, will not receive the candidate biography booklet. However, access to these materials will be available electronically via the IEEE annual election website. All eligible voting members will receive a paper ballot and postage paid reply envelope in their ballot package.

To assist all voting members in making an informed decision, a moderated Roundtable Q&A video/audio session, with the three President-Elect candidates answering questions asked by members, and a video/audio of the annual President-Elect candidates' debate, hosted by the IEEE Philadelphia Section, are also available on the IEEE annual election website. These videos are accessible from the link below or directly from IEEE.tv. We hope you will take advantage of the opportunity to view the President-Elect candidates. Please visit http://www.ieee.org/elections.

In addition, to help you learn more about them, many candidates have provided a link to a personal Web site and a short "by-line" to further promote their candidacy. These "by-lines" are provided below. If no url is provided, then a personal Web site is not available. Candidates are listed alphabetically by election category and the sequence does not indicate any preference.

Your vote is important to the IEEE. We encourage you to learn as much as you can about the candidates and participate in the annual election when you receive your ballot.

Sincerely,

Fern E. Katronetsky

IEEE

Send Us Your News

If you have information of interest to IEEE Kansas City Section members, please send that to the Publications Officer (writer @ ieee.org). Here are some examples of what we're looking for:

News pertaining to individual IEEE members of all grades, including students:

  • Obituaries
  • Awards, promotions, appointments, honors
  • Notable achievements
  • "Looking for work"--send a paragraph explaining what you do and how to reach you.

News to benefit other members

  • Technical seminars that are open to Section members
  • New courses
  • Job openings

There is no "deadline." Just send information as you get it, and the Publications Officer will add it to the next eNL (if the item is appropriate and if space permits--and space nearly always permits).

Thought for the Day

It is possible to be efficient without being productive. Efficiency is a matter of output per unit of input. Productivity is "product out the door." To be productive, you must do the right things, and you must do them well. Do you stop to see if all that hustle and bustle is really accomplishing what needs to be done? You can also be efficient without being effective. Ponder that one for a while.

Sub/Unsub

You may unsubscribe to the IEEE-KC eNL mailing list at

Be sure to include your IEEE member number of $ID.
The "$ID" text above applies to the e-mail version, only, not to the Website version. If you unsub the Website, you need to know your IEEE member ID. If you unsub from the e-mailed NL, the ID will appear in place of "$ID."
