1. March Dinner Meeting Review

Thursday, March 17, 2005
Sponsored by the Power Engineering Society, Kansas City Chapter

This review, courtesy Dr. Dale Rummer.

The attendance was excellent, including many students.

Mr. Jay Caspary made a very interesting and informative presentation about the Southwest Power Pool, SPP.

The Vision of SPP is "Helping our members work together to keep the lights on, today and into the future."

Southwest Power Pool, SPP, came into being when 11 companies joined together voluntarily in 1941 to serve critical national defense needs during World War II. SPP, a FERC-approved regional transmission organization (RTO), is a group of 43 members serving more than 4 million customers and covers a geographic area of 400,000 square miles containing a population of over 18 million people.

The SPP RTO will provide tremendous benefits to the region for enhanced planning and continued reliability of service. At present, SPP is working on new initiatives to enhance transmission service in the region.

See their Website for more details: www.spp.org
