1. February Dinner Meeting Review
|
The February PACE meeting was lively, to say the least. A panel of experts (see top photo, at right) provided an interactive, PowerPoint-free program. Questions and comments from the audience ranged from the direction of engineering academia to the direction careers are heading, today. |

| And, of course, any time you get a bunch of engineers in the same room, technical topics always arise. This led to a fascinating discussion on wireless systems in such places as hospitals, convention centers, and corporate offices. |

| We apologize to those who missed this program, only to later hear that they should have been there. Our pre-event information could have been better. But then again, we have had one good program after another for quite a long time. As always, the food and fellowship were good. The Wyndham has a new chef who is determined to make a good showing, so expect some culinary delights in the months to come. You can also expect outstanding programs and scintillating conversation, but only if you plan now and make sure you can attend. Which is why you'll find information on upcoming events as you keep reading this eNL. And, yes, you can click the photos above to enlarge them. Notice all the smiles? Why not have one on your face, as you enjoy an upcoming dinner meeting? You can make your reservation for any 2005 dinner meeting at any time. |

This came to us via Bob Minor:
IEEE Senior Member Ralph W. Russell is scouting out
the next generation of electrical engineers and he’s finding them
through his work with the Boy Scouts of America. For the past 25 years,
he’s led a partnership between the IEEE and the Boy Scouts to promote
the technological literacy of young people. Read the rest of the story here:

Are you willing to wait for globalization to put you out of work? Or are you taking steps now to position yourself so you're not an easily replaceable commodity? Chances are you are doing a bit of both, but mostly waiting. Tap into the IEEE to improve on this. One obvious resource: the dinner meeting programs. You can also find a wealth of valuable resources at www.ieee.org. Just go there and see. Make a 30 minute career improvement appointment on your calendar, and then invest 30 minutes of clicking through the IEEE site and seeing what's there. That sure beats sending out 100s of resumes when you're out of work (a tactic which, by the way, doesn't work--but if you've been coming to our meetings you know that and you know what does work). |
Wishing you the best,
Mark Lamendola
