IEEE has provided some tools that allow us to be more database-driven in how we
get content onto the Website. This means much less e-mailing and HTML work. And
that should translate into some benefits for the members of the Kansas City
Section. We don't know exactly how yet, but you'll see as things progress. Our first foray into this was our meeting information; you may have noticed the changes on the Meetings page. We implemented that by inserting code into our existing page, to draw content from the database. Our next step is going to be reversing that relationship, wherein the database-driven area will be the main area. This is much easier and less prone to breakage than doing extensive coding to import things. Soon, you'll notice two domains if you click around. We're going to try to do as much as possible in the IEEE domain that's data-driven, with our original domain being mostly archival. Note from Section Webmaster: Big thanks to Jorge Marquez for getting so much of the legwork done. This will make my job easier in the long run, which also means it should be easier to pass the baton some day. |
